Man! You all got pounded in the North East with bad weather in February and lookin like the same in store for you this month. But you could be on this exact beach in a couple of hours – that’s why banks invented credit cards!
Nope –Ain’t gonna tell you which beach. If you don’t know it, then you better get your a** down to St. John and find it!
FEBRUARY AND MARCH WHALE TIME
This beach was featured in one of my very first newsletters to you and one of my favorites.
We have a lot of new subscribers since this time a year ago so I thought I’d reprint.
The high season for whale watching is February and March but occasionally it will extend to early April. During this time humpback whales traveling to the Northeast areas of Maine and Massachusetts making a brief stop in the Virgin Islands thus allowing their calves to build up a layer of blubber for warmth before they continue their journey northward to more frigid waters.
Adult Humpbacks can easily reach a length of 50 feet weighing up to 40 tons and are distinguished by the white on their dorsal fins and tail. An adult Humpback can consume up to 3,000 pounds of food a day. But as the Caribbean doesn’t offer an abundance of food for them they may loss up to 20% of their weight while here but quickly regained it once they reach colder waters where food is more plentiful.
The very best time to spot them at my villas on Maria’s Bluff in Chocolate hole is March. On numerous occasions I’ve seen a pod of them just below the villas and they are a sight to behold.
The fishing is very good there and plenty of Caribbean lobsters. One of the several reasons each villa is outfitted with multiple sets of binoculars for viewing whales and turtles in the ocean a 100 ft below.
There are a couple of whale watching boats available, just let me know and I’ll get you information.
Well if you planned on coming to my places anytime between now and mid-May. Forget it! The “Inn” is full with many returning guests that made reservations last year. It’s just not my places but throughout the island. With decreased inventory and higher tourism availability for all is becoming a problem. Can’t speak for others but I’m already seeing a lot of interest for the 1st Quarter of 2020.
That being said, Summer weeks are pretty much wide open at this time and still at 2018 prices! Give me an email or shout-out and I’ll see what I can do. Also if you’ve been with me before great discounts are still in effect. And if you had a good time at my place referrals are always appreciated and an extra discount to you for these rentals.
Hope you liked the information provided and maybe it’ll add just a little something to your St. John vacation experience. Don't forget you can connect with Mulley's St. John Villas on Facebook.
Have a great March and don’t freeze your “butt” off while using that snow shovel! I’ll “Leave The Lite On For You” at your new island home – Bordo Mare or Sopra Mare.
